I have a few I like.

Web Design is really about usability. Understanding the specific psychology of the web user and how to program a site so that the web user's experience is comfortable.

Jakob Nielsen is old-school and is the grandfather of web usability. His stuff is really good.

The "Web Pages That Suck" series is also really good. Learning good web design by understanding bad web design

Finally, a great ebook that covers web usability as well as the technical implementation of it (html, css, etc) from a big picture point of view is "Web Design Mastery". It's a collection of ebooks that is really put together well

http://designmyownwebsite.net/go/jakobnielsen_designing.html Jakob Nielsen's first book Designing Web Usability

Well, there's one that's just plainly called HTML. It's a paperback text book.
If you want dreamweaver/flash/that whole bunch of stuff try the Dream Weaver book. It's white, about the size of a regular text book in length, and about a little larger than an atlas (page wise). I'm sorry I can't be more specific for you. I can try to find an image of the book or I'll just take one tomorrow at school.

I'm also majoring in Web Design next year so maybe we could help each other out :)

I'm not sure what the nature of your question is, but if you want cheep website option and you consider your self to be a bit of a new-be, look up worldpress and 'Free worldpress themes' on google. I've gotten some good quality stuff for between free and $ 50.
